Lynsey Harley joins the judges at the World Brewers Cup

Lynsey Harley, barista lead at United Coffee, will be judging at the inaugural World Brewers Cup this month.
The World Brewers Cup will take place at the 2011 SCAE World of Coffee event in Maastricht and was launched to promote manual coffee making and service excellence.
All the judges must be qualified Q Graders and Lynsey, a recently qualified Q Grader, was asked to join the esteemed panel of judges last month.
Lynsey says, “I’m delighted to have been asked to be a judge in this global competition and I’m really looking forward to seeing the competitors in action. It’s a clear demonstration of how important the craftsmanship in coffee has become.”
She continues, “I’m absolutely passionate about great coffee and I’ll be looking to ensure that the competitors have perfected their extraction techniques to create the best brew possible. It won’t be easy and I’m sure that my recent [Q Grade] qualification will come in useful!”
Competitors will need to pass the first round qualification where brewing techniques will be put to the test. They must all use the same coffee to create three brews in seven minutes, Lynsey and the rest of the judges will award points based on taste alone.
The six successful candidates will then go through to the final where they will brew a coffee of their choosing, using their preferred brewing method. Points will be awarded for coffee flavour (70%) and presentation (30%).
Lynsey will be judging at the UK heats, which take place on June 11th at Prufrock café in London. She will also be showing off her own barista skills at the Restaurant Leaders Summit on 15th – 16th June.
